No, I didn't suggest that. In fact I didn't suggest to colorize the 
margin of the paper at all (I'd rather colorize the margin-line only.)
Keeping the margin white or very close to white is important 
to be able to judge correctly concerning the white-space 
and several aspects of layout. (This is supposed to become 
What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get after all, right :-) ?

If you really need to color the margin then make it very light gray.
Except for that I suggested to make the page-ouline black (preferably 
including a black shadow of the paper) and
the ground _behind_ the paper dark-grey like in this fake-screenshot:
