I hacked a dock app extensions this morning. It autodetects windows that set the IconWindowHint (standard X dock app hints) and embeds them. This works similar to the Window Maker dock area and supports Window Maker applets as well as Afterstep ones. Pretty much anything compliant to the default wm hints is supported. 

TODO:

- better layout management
- save& restore dock apps
