Commit eough code to be rather dangerous.  It frobs the apm device in a
way that should work, but given the fact that most APM bioses are truely
crap, I wouldn't want to test it.  I don't actually own a laptop and have
seen some unplesant things when I try and actually suspend system.  This
won't work if you've got an APM 1.1 BIOS (can't properly detect
suspend/standby caps), or have left the stock apm device entry in your
kernel config file (i.e. have flagx 0x20 to force 1.1 mode, or left the
disabled keyword in).  But it "works" for me.  I think.
