What do you want to make configurable? PM/AM vs 24 h clock? Why shouldn't
locale setting be respected? I mean..:
newStr.sprintf("%s %d/%d", date.dayName(date.dayOfWeek()).latin1(),
date.month(), date.day());
will as far as I can see not translate the day of week and the date format
will be MM/DD which really doesn't make any sense. In some countries it
should be displayed as DD/MM, DD.MM and even ".DD.MM.".
If you really think non of the formats provided by KLocale fit this
application, why not change KLocale instead of reinventing the wheel?
