I experienced exactly the same.  ;-)

1) I started KWord the first time -> *.txt, etc. was in the filter list
2) KWord shutdown
3) strated KWord the second time -> no more *.txt ...

*strange*

(if I'd have more time I'd say: I'll look into this, but ... :-(
