I don't understand. It runs fine here without X connection:

DISPLAY= ./testdistrlist
kresources: Factory::self()
kdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set.
[...]
testdistrlist: All tests OK.

Sure it can't launch kdeinit, but with a valid ksycoca file it runs fine.
