No need for ./ since the prefix is taken into account, so "$file" should 
expand to the absolute pathname.

If ash has no source and BSD sh has no ., how do we do it? Do we introduce 
shell-detection code?

What is it that the Bourne shell has? I would think that the BSD sh is the 
one closest to the original Bourne shell.
