don't have to check for "apply geometry" because heightForWidth is
called only for vert panels, and widthForHeight on horizontal panels

fix text alignment when dragging panel horiz->vert->horiz (or the other
way around

don't relayout so often when switching tz's so it doesn't look so jerky
