Makes sense. I will do the same for the sidebar newsticker plugin.

But does the DO_NOT_COMPILE trick work this deep in the hierarchy?
On my system, after removing rssservice, I can see the warning messages 
during and at the end of configure but the Kontact plugin is compiled 
nevertheless.

Does it work for you?
