It is a GUI for console-based mathematical packages, see
  http://www.eleceng.ohio-state.edu/~ravi/kde/frontman.html
for more information. It is general enough that any process that can be
manipulated via std* handles, i.e., does not require special tty support, can
be plugged in through it. In other words, it is like a khtml-based
konsole :-) It has been requested often on the dot and on various other
places as well.

The refactoring occurred because it needs to have a MDI mainwindow to be truly
useful, but it was developed in the days of KDE 3.0, and used KJanusWidget as
a poor man's MDI. Now that I have given up on the KMDI authors ever writing a
decent introduction/tutorial, I am basically going to try trial and error
methods to make this app work the Way It Should (TM).

Regards,
Ravi
