a) SCO isn't threating single companies, it's threating free software,
  it's declaring the GPL invalid - so even if they still sell unixware,
  they declare running KDE on it illegal.
b) Lars doesn't work for any company involved in the SCO legal
  case afaik and he's the original author of the code and told the
  current maintainer that the code is obsolete now. 
c) who do you think you are that you can judge better if both
  author and maintainer say it's no longer needed?
