This is something different. The bug I fixed was that the local tree didn īt 
remember it īs state anymore because of the new "Search" folder. 
Your local tree is always expanded to show your startup folder. If you want to 
change this folder (which is an option in HEAD) you can use a hidden config. 
Set the key startupFolder in the General section of your kmailrc which should 
point to the full path of your imap folder on you disk (which are located in 
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap/<accountname>). E.g. my entry is (with server 
being the name of my account):

startupFolder=.server.directory/INBOX

If you select e.g. your imap inbox you can collapse your local tree and it 
stays collapsed.
