"linux" is an X define.
dunno about "Linux".
"__linux__" is the symbol used by gcc, so any compiler claiming
compatibility simply has to define it. ergo it is safe to use solely
this one.
i think roughly the same applies to __(Free|Open|Net)BSD__, as their
standard compiler is gcc as well, no?
