- the reason for the patch was an incompatibility i introduced. while i
  think i had the right idea, i had to revert it for obvious reasons for
  now. :-/
- the problematic code was never in the 3.1 branch

so while it makes sense to leave it in head to save work when i change
the behaviour for kde 4, backporting to a feature-wise dead branch was
utterly superflous (just like this mail, but you know that i'm a pedant
:). btw, reverting would be just as superflous. ;)
