Aah, I see.
I wasn't sure of the meaning of "DPMS-dependent".

Btw, note that you'd have to keep track of changes in kcontrol so that the 
timer is started/stopped when the user changes his settings. I'm not sure 
of how can you do that.

Ah, that's good. I've never used SETI, so I wanted to tell about it just in 
case.
