I have reported similar problems last week. It turned out that the bug depends 
on keyboard configuration of X. With generic 104 key keyboard it works OK, 
with Generic windows keyboard (or however is called), it the keyboard wasn't 
grabbed. I will try your patch and see if it solved that case or not.
