- trying to be much smarter wrt reusing old scripts and config files
- HiddenUsers is by default empty. the preferred way of doing things is
  MinShowUID and MaxShowUID. porters & distributors should adapt the os
  detection in main()
- adapted to new/changed greeter options
- moved some code around, minor internal changes
