I think Laurent was commenting on the use of macro_optional_add_subdirectory, 
not add_subdirectory (which is built into CMake and KDE has no control over).  
Certainly something is seriously wrong if add_subdirectory is ca
lled for a 
directory which doesn't exist or is empty, but our 'optional' is intended for 
just that situation.
