OK. 

Started Noatun and tried to open an mp3 file on a mounted Windows partition. 
It crashed with no output from artsd.

Started Noatun and added a .m3u playlist, hit play. The playlist emptied. 
Still no output from artsd.

Started Noatun and added a directory to the playlist, hit play. The playlist 
emptied. No output from artsd

artsd is definitely running (I checked).

I have also noticed that the same thing happens when I hit fast forward- the 
whole playlist empties.

Would you like a backtrace for the crash?
