The attached text file BUG24283 have the answer to your questions.  I can 
also send you the bootnet.img file if you wish, or you can download from a 
RedHat mirror.  It's a 7.1 bootnet.img, i386, en version.

As for the below results of file the image is identifiable.

robert@screech:~> file bootnet.img
bootnet.img: x86 boot sector, system SYSLINUX, FAT (12 bit)
robert@screech:~>

I don't have previews enabled on my desktop, all text files
and images are icons.

Konqueror does not crash when I load the directory that contains
the bootnet.img file.

On the console I get the following output:
