Well, the startup of kwrite is rather slow on most systems (1.6 s on my 
PIII/500 laptop) due to the fact that kwrite parses a lot of files during
startup.

What about kedit? kedit uses needs less than a second on my system?
How do you launch your applications.

In general 3+ seconds on a K6-2 is not that bad. How long does it take to
startup the much less functional xedit?
