I don't quite know what you mean here: It's either

1. You want a applet in the panel that shows you if new mail has
arrived.
-> close bug, look at kbiff at al.

2. You want the application's icon (the one that also appears in the
windopw decorations) to change upon new mail.
-> Is that possible? I don't know...
