The short answer is: "Sorry, this is how X works".

The detailed answer is not much longer: "It will be worked around in Qt3
by separating the notion of 'clipboard' and 'selection', which is
currently the same. IIRC, CTRL-V will be 'paste from clipboard' and mmb
will be 'paste current selection'".
