Subject: Bug#19456: KDE2 Sis
From: yulser () email ! com

[Download RAW message or body]
Package: kdesktop
Version: 2.0.1
Severity: critical
Installed from: Red Hat RPMs
I installed KDE2 (1.93) RPMs onto a default installation of RH7. KDE2 ran fine.
I tried to upgrade to 2.0.1 with RPMs for RH7. When I load KDE2, the startup screen \
(with KDE logo) can be seen, but then the screen goes blank. The hard drive \
continues to run, and I hear the startup tune to KDE2, with the screen remaining \
blank. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does nothing. Alt-F[1..6] does nothing. The only way to \
return the computer to a functional status is by rebooting the computer.
I remember a similar problem when I tried to run KDE 1.1.2 on the same computer.
I tried to recompile qt-2.2.2 from source with the ./configure -no-opengl option. \
The qt libs were placed in /usr/local/qt/lib, with the appropriate paths set. No \
luck. (I remember KDE 1.1.1 ran fine until I tried the OpenGL screensavers :) ).
XFree86 3.3.6 and 4.0.1, GNOME (all versions), as well as Englightenment, WindowMaker \
all run fine. This problems seems to be specific to KDE.
I know there are known problems with Sis 6326 video cards, but is there a work around \
for this bug that I'm getting only with KDE? I'm very keen to use this WM.
Thank you.
