Can you find out please how this is done in xmms? Normally the cdrom is 
connected to the soundcard. Then you can change the volume with a special 
cdrom mixer channel of the normal sound card mixer. Are u sure that this 
isn't visible in your kmix? Another (exotic) way to mix a cdrom volume would 
be with another mixer device. I've never seen this for a cdrom, but maybe 
it's the case for you.
