FYI, if by normal authentication you mean HTTP authentication then there is a 
known issue I am hunting down right now that causes kio_http to SEGFAULT if
the authentication method is Digest (problem is when we create the digest 
response in extern_md5.c).  Basic Authentication should work fine though.
