When you chose "Open With" from the rmb menu for a file, and then choose a program that 
already has a .desktop entry so it is in the application tree, and select "remember
application association with this file," the association is not actually made.

Checking out ~/.kde/share/applnk/Multimedia/xmms.desktop after I attempted to associate
xmms with a video/mpeg, I see that yes, the MimeType list has been updated to 
include video/mpeg.  Perhaps ~/.kde/share/config/profilerc MUST be updated as well?
It probably shouldn't need to be though.
