Subject:    Bug#3572: Failure logging-in when gethostbyname did not work

I broke my host name setup, so the hostname did not resolve to an IP 
address.  I could not login to KDE2 at all.  When I logged in kicker 
started and kcmbackground, but not kwin and kdesktop did not start.  A 
dialog appeared saying internal error unable to communicate with klaunch.

Big bug: The error messages did not give me much of a lead.  I only 
figured it out once I had a konsole running and I tried manually 
startyin ksmserver, and I saw the gethostbyname failed error message.
