Package: kdebase
Version: 1.1.2

System: Redhat Linux 6.1

running configure -prefix=/local/lgalanis/usr/local/kde comes up with
the following error:

checking for KDE... libraries /local/lgalanis/usr/local/kde/lib, headers
/local/lgalanis/usr/local/kde/include
checking for KDE paths... compiling
checking for KDE headers installed... yes
checking for KDE libraries installed... yes
configure: error: configure could not run a little KDE program to test
the environment.
Since it had compiled and linked before, it must be a strange problem on
your system.
Look at config.log for details. If you are not able to fix this, look at
http://www.kde.org/faq/installation.html or any www.kde.org mirror.
(If you're using an egcs version on Linux, you may update binutils!)

I am not allowed (by the administrators) to use rpms and cannot compile
to completion.

Here are the last lines of config.log
configure:3805: checking for KDE

I think the configuration scripts may have a slight problem.
