hello, I am running RedHat 5.1 on an old 486/dx2 system. An internal modem is installed on com4/cua3 using IRQ3, a serial mouse is connected to com1/cua0 with IRQ4. IRQ´s are set with jumpers, the system works well under W95. Running Linux, the modem works fine using minicom. "setserial" with cua0 and ttyS0, cua3 and ttyS3 clearly identifies mouse and modem correctly. However, loading the KDE-desktop I cannot get the modem running using Kppp. Interrogating the modem in kppp works. Trying to dial a provider and watching the terminal window in Kppp, just after initialisation of the modem with ATZ I just get random-like characters generated on the screen. Changing handshake, speed or CR/LF settings does not change the situation. It looks like there is an IRQ-problem, but as stated above IRQ-settings/base addresses are verified, motherboard and modem do not support pnp... Program versions: kdenetwork version 1.0 release 2rh51 kppp version 1.3.3 pppd version 2.3 level 3 no relevant messages found in /var/log/messages Does anybody have an idea what the problem is??
