Thank you for the reminder, Martin.

I followed the tips given by Thomas and haven't observed the reported issue
since then. However, having the tearing prevention set to never did present me
with tearing (most notable when watching videos). So a few days ago i decided
to go for the real solution (also suggested by Thomas) to enable triple
buffering and re-enable tearing prevention in kwin.

Videos seems to be playing smoothly now and no hangs in mpv at all.
