I used backports and updated to 5.3.2 . Unfortunately, things got only worse.
After the first reboot, I had a completely black screen instead of desktop and
panel (keyboard shortcuts still worked). Then after rebooting twice, things
looked suddenly normal again. But again after about 1 minute, everything froze.
Other than before, not even open programs continued to work. Switching to
another session with e.g. ctrl+alt+F6 was the only thing still responding. This
freeze behavior after about 1 minute occurs every time I reboot.
