Never mind.  I figured it out.  I copied ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics
to another .ics but your hint got me looking around and I found the std.ics
icon on the Calendar page and checked the box in front of it (which I had not
realized was a check box) and everything appeared in the calendar and the to-do
lists.  I am not sure how I missed that previously.  My new.ics did not appear
in the list next to the std.ics but it did not matter because everything stayed
fine even after I deleted it.
