Unfortunately, this last patch didn't help.

For what is worth, I tested on another, OpenSUSE 13.1 machine, and I get exact
same error. Either I do something really stupid (like, I don't pay attention to
some documented detail in the setup process), or there is something special in
my config (e.g. my ~/.gitconfig or something else) that triggers this. (note: I
removed my ~/.gitconfig completely and the same error still occurs).

I guess I will have to learn how to debug perl...
