Had the same problem, got here through a search engine, and found no answer,
nor here nor elsewhere, to why kdevelop was ignoring breakpoints.
With the suggestion in comment 3, to use kdebugdialog, I have discovered what
was going on.

The bug, both in kdevelop and gdb, is a lack of documentation on how to setup
them to debug an executable when the source files are in another location than
the one declared in the symbol table.
