I wasn't ever able to reproduce it reliably on my system, but another user
mentioned it happened more frequently when the "Recent Documents" section was
empty and greyed out, which provided a helpful clue, and colleagues were able
to reproduce it fairly easily and tested the patches for me.

If you'd like to test it yourself you'll either have to fetch and build the
code, or you couldperhaps use Kubuntu's CI ISOs/packages which are sourced from
the latest development code once a week. Alternatively, there's a beta coming
up in January which various distros will likely package.
