@J.A. Moray - yes, this also fixes your problem

@m.wege - here is a the info you need:
"This option has to be configured in NetworkManager.conf where you have to
specify the uri of a web page which will be used for a request and also the
response. More info in "man NetworkManager.conf". I should probably mention
that you need at least NetworkManager 0.9.8.10, because previous versions have
broken notifications about changed connectivity and thus the change is not
propagated to #plasma-nm.

If you can try it out you can put a simple text file on your server with a text
which you have to set also as a response to the configuration.
I'm using this configuration:
[connectivity]
uri=http://jgrulich.fedorapeople.org/connectivity.txt
interval=120
response=online"
