I think this request is out of the scope of a general purpose text editor that
Kate is. Yes of course, one could add a plugin for that, but then the truth is
that the Kate developers probably won't have the resources to do that. And
altering the search code such that it guesses what you want is impossible,
especially since it adds non-deterministic behaviour: Lots of other users won't
understand why searching for a specific string will also highlight others.

You should try to develop such a plugin yourself (either as C++ plugin or as
Python plugin). This is why Kate is extensibe in this way.

I'll close this as wont-fix, sorry.
