Same problem with archlinux x86_64 and KDE 4.10.4 on a fresh install.
Notifications osd is on left top corner and the icon disappear of the box. If i
place the notification widget on my desktop, icons work fine but i have 2 osd.
One at the right place and a second at the top left corner.
Notice the tpo left corner notification look strange, too much transparencies.
