I am having the same issue with my self-compiled KDE 4.10.1.
The problem is not reproducible: Sometimes when the screen is locked due to
inactivity or the system going to suspend, the password field does not have
focus. So far, I did not see this happen when using the shortcut to manually
lock the screen.
