For what it's worth, even with the delay decreased to 1 second, I still find it
annoying. I'm a relatively fast typist; before I could quickly select different
files using the keyboard, but now I actually have to pause and wait for the
previous query to be cleared (didn't know about Escape before, that's something
I'll use more often).

Here's an example of what I mean:

Task: Open a file that may be called "dolphin_screenshot.png" or
"screenshot_dolphin.png".

Before: type "do", no matching files seems to have been found, type "scr"
instead.

Now: type "do", no matching file found. Type "s", doesn't work, wait 1 second
and type "scr".

Obviously the preferred delay depends on how fast a typist you are. Therefore I
think the best option would be to use QApplication::keyboardInputInterval() (or
something similar) like before, and provide an option to configure the delay it
in System Settings. This should affect other GUI elements as well, such as
combo boxes and lists.
