The Haskell indenter was written with the presumption that space characters are
used for indentation, so it might very well be a problem with the indenting
script.

The Haskell style guides I have seen suggest not using tabs at all (they might
even be made illegal in a future version ¹) and this specific indenting script
was written according to the coding style used in "Real World Haskell".
