--- Comment #6 from Daniel Moyne <daniel.moyne@free.fr> ---
Christian this bug was simply solved on both computers by doing this :
installing "pavucontrol"

After this I could simply remove the HDA ATI HDMI device in the "Configuration"
tab which made it to disapear in KMix settings and from there on be able to
restore my KDE output volume control at each new opening of KDE session
independently of waht is made in pavucontrol.

I take this opportunity to comment on the way KMix is interfaced to the sound
server PulseAudio ; if I have well understood that all sound applications like
kde desktop and kde applications are clients of such server ; before aRts was
the default sound server used by KDE ; when I look at KMix settings I do not
clearly understand what Kmix is supposed to do as there is no way in KMix for
exemple to select a sound server like PulseAudio or other such aRTs ; is it the
job for KMix to select a device such as a soundcard : I would say that is for
the soudserver whichever it is ; as a matter of fact this is what appens when
pavucontrol is installed as KMix reflects pavucontrol settings ; same for the
sound driver such as ALSA and OSS ; I would let this to the sound server to be
accomplished ; now KMix allows the user to select a sound engine like Gtreamer
to handle sound stream from the sound server though Phonon which is
undesstandable by the user.

To conclude and to add a bit of clarity to all this, is it possible to show in
KMix with a dedicated tab which soundserver is linked to sound streams handled
in KDE?
