Severity: normal
Version: 4.3.0
Priority: NOR
Assignee: joris.guisson@gmail.com
Summary: Usability: View > Plugins/Scripts confusing, display
in dialogs instead
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Component: general
Product: ktorrent
I think it would be better to display "Plugins" and "Scripts" in dialogs
instead of switching the view from Torrents, which I found to be confusing.
Here's what I experienced:
I use the AppMenu runner (see e.g.
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/02/appmenu-runner-hud-like-functionality.html) to
access entries in the menu. Thus, my menubar is always hidden by default.
Today I wanted to configure some Plugins in KTorrent, so I enter "plu" in
KRunner and hit enter. The plugins showed up - I expected it to be a dialog
covering the KTorrent window - I configured what I needed, and closed the
"dialog". To my surprise the KTorrent window was gone. Even worse, when I tried
to restore KTorrent or restart the application I would still get the Plugins
window!
With the menubar hidden there's no way to tell that the view has changed, and
that you need to switch back to "Torrents".
Granted, my setup is a bit special, but I can imagine other people getting
confused by the way you switch views. Therefore I propose to use dialogs
instead to show View > Plugins and View > Scripts (and then perhaps moving the
entries to Settings).
Reproducible: Always
