This is how it should work, IMHO:

- have a list of display profiles, user-sorted by priority
- when detected that none of the available displays is active anymore, consult
the configured profiles. Find the first best matching profile, e.g. by
comparing the configured and available displays. If one is found, activate it.
Otherwise, activate all available displays.
- show the "monitor setup changed" dialog on all active displays, with an
additional option to switch to a different profile

Bonus points if kwin would automatically distribute the windows on the
available displays, depending on the profile selected :-)
