I gave the patch a spin and it works fine here (built the 4.3 branch). Thing is
I don't use firefox, I only installed it once a couple of weeks ago and then
uninstalled it. So it must have messed with the mimetypes.

Just for future reference, I did:

rm -rf ~/.local/share/mime/*
mkdir ~/.local/share/mime/packages
update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/

and got rid of the messy mime type. Now it works fine even with Gentoo's 4.3.0
stock package. Sorry for the spam :)
