top -bid 1 > ~/cpu_use.log
Log while the system is frozen (but responds via ssh).
What is underrepresented in these statistics is a family of processes that
frequently shows up when running top interactively: "migration/x". In the
interactive top output that typically consumes > 50% CPU.
@Thomas: To narrow down why you can't reproduce the issue: Which Linux kernel
and X version are you running? Do you use a multi-core CPU?
