definately the latest Nvidia Beta driver 270.29 does the job! You will 
get it from here:

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/270.29/

This solves the crashes with Amarok and as well with the VLC media 
player, which I faced as well in the last time. Don't hesitate to run 
the install script. Normally it tells you what to install additional 
(kernel-devel, etc.). It's an easy way.
