Sorry about that. I wasn't sure about the term "virtual screen". Lost in
translation. Turns out the portuguese translation isn't literal (screen = ecrã
; desktop = ambiente de trabalho).

I haven't instaled 4.6 yet (will try it tonight). I guess you're right though.
I have since dwelved a little into ~/.kde4/share/config and I was able to
restore my old look by editing plasma-desktop-appletsrc and activitymanagerrc.
Somehow, containements got messed around and, like you said, when they became
orphan, that seems to have resulted in the creation of activities and
virtualdesktops.

I'm sorry if I can't help much. It hasn't happened again and I'm still clueless
to what the root cause might have been.
