from the description it sounds like you want a "pulse" (fade out to black, fade
in) - this covers imperformant transitions ;-P

Since there's no "activityChanged" in lib/kwineffects.h, one would have to rely
on the "propertyNotify" ->

do activities set/modify a property on eg. the root when being changed?

Unless activities becomes an fdo standard i'd rather say that such effect
should be shipped with plasma-desktop rather than with the builtin kwin
effects?!?
